Had a great time with Sam, Bryony and their little crew consisting of Ava and Isla. We went over to Highwoods country park for a relaxed family shoot with some gorgeous light on a warm Sunday evening. A camera shy little Ava very quickly came out of her shell and began to enjoy more and more having her photo taken! These guys smashed it and the setting made it absolutely perfect for them!
Even when it comes to arranged family shoots like these I still like to keep it as natural as possible. Getting families to stand facing the camera with forced smiles is all great but those great shots come from those natural interactions, so I try and encourage that as much as I can. Its all about easing families into the shoot, setting them up, giving them freedom – whilst continuously shooting every interaction. Most people let alone most kids don’t enjoy having their photo taken traditionally. Its so important to keep the kids busy, throwing them straight into a forced family shot will most likely make them feel uncomfortable. Let them have a bit of freedom (especially at the beginning) by getting them to do whatever they want to do first – have a run around or enjoy the park, whatever that might be! They will almost always respond to you so much better if you give them that bit of freedom first.
Give me a buzz if you fancy your very own natural family shoot
Enjoy the set guys 😀
